Mr Kodjo Appiah, an Accra-based businessman has advocated communal efforts in the neighborhoods to address the perennial flooding in the capital city.
He attributed the continuous flooding to lack of political will on the part of government and the inactions of political office holders.
Mr Appiah in an interview with the GNA in Accra said since the leaders failed to address the issue, people would have to take individual actions in their neighbourhoods to stop the perennial flooding as well as save lives and properties.
Yesterday’s downpour flooded both flood prone areas and areas not known or associated with flooding, including America House and Trassaco in the prime areas of East Legon.
According to Mr George Ayisi, Head of Communication, NADMO, there was no death recorded as a result of the flooding, but properties worth thousands of cedis were destroyed.
He said NADOM officials were still assessing the level of destructions and by the close of the day a report would be submitted to the authorities for the necessary actions.
Mr Ayisi advised the public to take weather forecast warnings very seriously and ensure that those at flood prone areas move to higher grounds to protect lives.
"The public should not hesitate to contact NADMO on its emergency operations Centre number 999 option 4 or 0299350030 for assistance," he added.
He denied the allegation that yesterday's downpour had claimed one life, adding, "our rescue team has followed up to the stream but nothing was found".
He said NADMO had trained Disaster Volunteers in the communities to assist members in identifying their problems and help them solve them and that the Organization would embark on recruiting more volunteers within the communities.
He explained further that those volunteers were not on government payroll but were dedicated individuals who were sacrificing to help fix problems within their communities.
Officials from the Ghana Meteorological Agency said yesterday's rain measured 78mm and warned the public to expect heavier rains measuring 100mm from now as it had reached its peak.
Adentan, Redco Flat, Adgiriganor, American House, Trassaco, Odawna, Kaneshie, among others all had their fair share of the flood.
