Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye has chided corrupt politicians as he urged them to learn from the anti-corruption stance of former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, ahead of his burial on Saturday, 1 June 2019.

The mortal remains of the former Majority Leader, Dr Adjei, was laid in state in Parliament on Friday, 31 May 2019, ahead of his burial.

Having paid his quota through several years of Parliamentary practice and dedicated service to the country in various capacities, parliament at a short pre-burial ceremony on Friday received his body and eulogised him.

“He was honest. He was not corrupt. I follow Ghanaian politics and I'm saying this in public. He was not corrupt,” Prof Oquay said adding that “It is a quality we need for men and women in public life”.

Professor Oquaye who served together with Dr Adjei in parliament further stated that the former NDC Chair “was a man who was principled and showed in his various activities and actions that he went by his convictions. He could be wrong but he was convinced and sincere about the steps he took”.

Dr Adjei died at age 76 at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Accra on 12 March 2019.

Popularly referred to as "Wayoo! Wayo!", Dr Adjei succeeded Dr Obed Asamoah as National Chairman of the NDC in 2005 and guided the party to victory in the 2008 election which was won by the late President J.E.A. Mills.
