The Ministry of Interior has declared Wednesday, June 5 as a Statutory Public Holiday.

In a statement signed by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, it said the day which marks the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr should be observed as such throughout the country.

“The General public is hereby informed that Wednesday 5th June, 2019 Which marks the celebration of Eid-Al-Fitr is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read.

Eid al-Fitr is an important religious occasion celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

This religious Eid is the first and only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast.

Eid al-Fitr 2019 in Ghana will begin on the evening of Tuesday, 4 June 2019 and ends in the evening of Wednesday, 5 June.
