Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult, Mr. Irbard Ibrahim has observed that father’s day celebration is needless in Africa because it is part of the white man’s culture which has been blindly copied by Ghanaians.
According to him, African fathers are already responsible and do not need the white man’s culture to remind them of how responsible they are impugning that celebrating the day is needless.
He said in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.com “African fathers are responsible. We don’t need some white culture to tell us which day in the year we should celebrate them.
Look around, is there a single day white people commemorate in relation to anything black or any black man? Why should we allow others tell us which days to do what?”
Background
Father’s Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society.
In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 (Saint Joseph’s Day) since the middle Ages.
This celebration was brought by the Spanish and Portuguese to Latin America, where March 19 is often still used for it, though many countries in Europe and the Americas have adopted the U.S. date, which is the third Sunday of June.
It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March, April and June according to the home nation’s customs.
