The Akuse Police has arrested a 58-year-old cleaner at the Akuse Government Hospital for his alleged engagement in illegal abortion.
Sowah Walker was arrested by Police investigators after placing surveillance on him at his residence after a tip off about his illegal abortion operation for young girls in the area.
A search in the room Where he carries out the criminal act revealed many medical instruments and drugs all retrieved by Police as exhibit.
Akuse District Police Commander, Superintendent Winfred Nyarko told Starr News that the suspect has since been arraigned before court and remanded to assist with further investigations.
“We had an intelligence that such a person is doing illegal abortion in his residence. So we placed surveillance on him and subsequently on June 6 this year I went there with my men and he was arrested.
“We saw that the tool he uses belongs to the Hospital so we brought him to the station, put him in our custody but as mandated we cannot keep him more than 48 hours so he was put before Court and has been remanded.”
According to him, some of the victims are ready to testify in Court against the suspect.
Meanwhile, management of Akuse Government Hospital has disassociated the hospital from illegal operations of their casual staff.
