Cross section of graduates from Zenith University College
The Zenith University College on Saturday, held its 11th congregation ceremony for two group of graduating students, who completed their programmes of study in June and December 2018 respectively.
The ceremony, which took place at the University’s auditorium at Trade Fair, Accra, was to recap graduating students, to unearth the acquired skills and competencies from their various programmes, as they seek to enter the world of work.
Mr. Stephen Takyi-Asiedu, the Rector of the University in his Address, said the University over the years had developed strong affiliations with some of the world’s most reputable institutions of higher learning and astute programmes, which were the toast of many Parliamentarians, Ministers of State, Senior Public Officers and a host of foreign student from the sub-region.
They included the University of London International Programme, which offered the Diploma in Law and the Bachelor of Laws, the United Kingdom-based Professional Bodies, the Association of Business Executives and the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality.
He said the University, in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Ghana Branch, has introduced the Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma to expand the field of study.
The Rector affirmed that the University in its effort to provide unflinching quality education in the college, continued to build the capacity of its teaching and non-teaching staff through its Staff Development Programme.
Consequently, Mr. Tekyi-Asiedu said plans have been put in place to ensure that faculty members without a PhD would have the opportunity to enroll in such programmes, to fulfill the National Accreditations Board’s requirements for teaching in tertiary education institutions.
“A number of our non-teaching staff have completed both BBA and MBA programmes with College sponsorship and four teaching staff are also pursing PhD programmes in various fields of study at the University of Ghana” he said.
He urged the graduates to use their acquired skills and competencies from the University to provide jobs for themselves, in their families, communities and various countries, rather than being job seekers.
“We have every hope that you will live up to expectations and prove your worth as a graduate of this University College brandishing the prestigious certificate awarded to you by the University of Cape Coast” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah in a speech read on his behalf, said graduation activities offered platforms for Universities to reflect on their activities, remind themselves of their vision as institutions and fashion out strategies that would help to attain their objectives.
He said that aim of the University College, was to train students, to become well equipped, to address developmental challenges confronting the country and to also become agents of change in wherever they may find themselves.
“It is also gratifying to note that, out of the total number of 286 that are graduating today, 177 are females, which is very encouraging for our affirmative action agenda” the Professor noted.
He stated that programmes that led to higher employability should be prioritized and considered, whiles existing ones be should re-aligned to serve the current needs of the employers and individuals venturing into entrepreneurship.
“We hope that Zenith University College is on course to meeting requirements of its affiliation with UCC and the National Accreditation Board”
The Vice-Chancellor advised the graduands to eschew complacency in their modus operandis, focus on their goals and apply their competencies acquired from the University College.
