The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] says Ghana under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is “no more a democratic country.”

Johnson Asiedu Nketia and his party are demanding the resignation of the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, over the alleged torture of the Deputy Editor of news website ModernGhana, by operatives of National Security.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, the NDC Chief Scribe also accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of presiding over “barbaric” attacks on press freedom and journalists.

"The press ensure information flow, like if they hold the executive accountable. If Parliament goes wrong, its the duty of the press to expose them. Thats why the press is key in a democratic dispensation. So we see any attack on the media as an attack on Ghana's democracy and NDC as a party will not sit down unconcerned".

"Some operatives of the National Security attacked media men and torture as they use is not allowed in this country. The Political head of the National Security must take responsibility and step down. He must resign to allow for investigations in to the matter".

Emmanuel Ajarfor, the Modern Ghana editor, was detained alongside a fellow journalist, Emmanuel Yeboah Britwum.

The case has been surrounded by controversy after suggestions that the arrest of the two journalists was tied to the publication of an article that criticized the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah.

Mr. Ajarfor later claimed he was tortured and his digital privacy violated while in National Security custody.

The National Security Council Secretariat has denied the torture claims and also intends to study the medical reports.
