CODE 57, an initiative that aims to invest and improve upon the lives of the youth to build a better Ghana has been launched at a short ceremony in Accra.
Driven by Pastor David Augustine Nii Adjaye and his south London-based Spac Nation church, Code 57 believes that mentorship and leadership are key components to the advancement of an individual hence, its quest to “empower, create opportunities and groom the youth to become competent leaders for tomorrow”.
In his submission, Pastor Adjaye recounted his challenges in life, observations and how he made a firm decision to help talented but needy persons.
“We believe the youth have lots of potentials but lack opportunities,” said Pastor Adjaye. “What CODE means is basically unlocking the potentials and skills of the young people have in Ghana. How we came about the ‘57’ is basically because Ghana had its independence in 1957.”
“CODE 57 of course has been birthed from a place of passion where one understands the struggles people face. When we talk about CODE 57 today, it’s actually for the people society looks down on, people who feel like they have no hope… It’s always been on my heart to come back to Ghana one day and raise future leaders” he added.
Highlighting the outfit’s contribution so far, Adjaye mentioned that CODE 57 has been able to “give out full scholarship to people, invested in few businesses... One of the things we can do is to put a team together to focus on one business so even if we can’t help the individual, we can suggest to you to partner someone else that would also in return help you to establish yourself.”
He further urged individuals who need support to contact the movement via all social media platforms.
On his part, Jerry Ofori Afram, owner of Yaabroni Premium Kenkey who is the first beneficiary, described the assistance he has received as enormous.
He said: “I met Pastor David last year December when I was selling at Accra Mall… I told him what I do, he loved it and sounded so interested… What CODE 57 has done for me is enormous. It’s not just about money. Sometimes, all you need is exposure. He’s given me exposure.”
Affectionately called Biscoffe, Jerry packages his Fante kenkey fortified with sesame seeds and makes deliveries to shops and individuals.
