Acting Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Kate Addo, has said that the proposed new parliamentary complex idea has been dropped, ABC News can confirm.

She made the comments on Peace Fm’s kokrooko programme Monday morning.

Kate Addo in the interview stressed the fact that parliament as a house of representation, seeks to always pass laws in favor of constituents. The outrage occasioned by the proposed new parliamentary complex, she said, is indicative of the public’s clear disapproval of its construction at this particular point in time.

According to her, the directive came from the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mike Ocquaye on Saturday after deliberations with some senior members of government. She also said that the parliamentary service board will meet before sundown today regarding the matter.

She iterated that the decision to push the proposal of the new chamber to the back burner was solely made by parliament as an independent arm of government without command from the Executive.

Speaking on the fate of the two members of the Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) who were arrested last Friday at parliament for disturbing the house, she said she was not certain whether or not parliament will press contempt charges against them.

“We are faced with other issues that need pressing attention so we would rather concentrate and find solutions to the problems that are plaguing the country rather than other things, so as at now, I can not say that, no.”
