Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has explained the ‘one million dollars for each constituency’ promised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 electioneering campaign is not a money going to individuals pocket but to develop various constituents.

The money, made available to the constituencies, is currently being used to finance developmental projects for the benefit of the people.

The main opposition party NDC has chided the Akufo-Addo-led government for its continual deceit to Ghanaians by always making unfeasible promises and its inconsistency with timelines.

He indicated, “The ‘one million dollars for each constituency’ campaign promise by President Akufo-Addo is being implemented across the country now so that the people can benefit from the huge cash. The money is not going into the pockets of individuals but is going to various constituencies to ensure development,”Oppong Nkrumah exclusively told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7

“As I speak with you, contracts for the construction of boreholes and toilet facilities have been awarded across the constituencies and they are being financed through the ‘one million dollar for each constituency.’’

Hon Oppong Nkrumah explained that the money will be used for specific projects under the IPEP to address certain needs of the constituencies.

‘Under IPEP, each of the 275 constituencies has been allocated the cedi equivalent of US1million dollars this year to be invested in infrastructure development’ she said.

The use of the ‘one million dollars per constituency’ money for projects, he explained, was to ensure effective use of the money and also for accountability purposes.

According to the NDC, the one million dollars per constituency President Akufo-Addo promised to Ghanaians during the electioneering period is nowhere to be found as government keeps giving excuses for its disbursement.
