The relatives and friends of Abdul Wasiu, the man who was shot dead at the Ashanti regional office of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed the party’s regional office on Monday, 15 July 2019 to demand justice for their deceased relative.

The angry friends and family burnt car tyres in the course of their protest over what they described as neglect by the party.

They had earlier burnt car tyres and protested at Sawaba Junction before proceeding to the regional office of the NDC.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service were deployed to the party’s office to maintain peace and order.

The angry protesters want the party to properly compensate the family so they can take care of the widow and children left behind by the deceased.

Although the party has donated a sum of GHS10,000 to the family, the angry protesters say the money is not enough.

A brother to the deceased, Tanko Mohammed, said the party must give the family justice.

Abdul Wasiu was shot dead while one other person sustained gunshot wounds in February 2019 during the shooting incident.

Four persons have since been arrested and arraigned and subsequently granted bail.

Tanko said the NDC has disappointed the bereaved family.
