One person has been retrieved dead in a mining pit that caved in on Thursday, 18 July 2019 at Akrokerri in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti region.
The deceased, Stephen Abu, 35 was pulled out of the pit dead by the rescue team.
The Obuasi Divisional Police Commander, DSP Martin Asenso told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that the rescue team is still working assiduously to dig deep and search the pit if there are more bodies or survivors to rescue.
The galamsey pit which caved in is very close to a toilet facility in the community.
