Evidence that suggests the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrew is plotting to ensure the Member of Parliament for Asawase Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka contests unopposed in the party’s upcoming Parliamentary primary has emerged.
In a leaked audio in the possession of Kasapafmonline.com, the NDC Chairman is heard appealing to one of the campaign team members of Muntaka’s contender, Mubarak Masawudu discussing how to get the aspirant to stepdown and openly throw his weight behind Muntaka.
The Chairman is heard promising that he’ll ensure Muntaka’s contender is made a District Chief Executive when the NDC wins power in 2020 election on condition that he withdraws from the race.
“…You see, the MCE position is there, any appointment that will come…you see I can control the region and so I can make any suggestion about my region. Don’t mention my name,…when he is okay we can arrange that meeting on one condition that he will openly campaign for him and we’ll try and give him some appointment. We’ll sit down and when he can do an open campaign for him then I can sign against it. When I’m doing something I want to be silent and everything will work out. Mutum[Asawase constituency Chairman] when I talk to him he’ll listen and Muntaka when I say anything he’ll listen to me. So let’s start from that area when he accepts I can arrange a meeting because some areas we have to protect it.”
But it appears this arrangement has been botched as Mubarak Masawudu is poised to contest Hon. Muntaka, even though the party hierarchy in the region is allegedly frustrating his efforts.
Mubarick Masawudu, who is alleging plans of sabotage by some leaders of the party at the constituency and regional level was shocked after he found the regional office of the party under lock and key when he arrived at the premises on Thursday afternoon to file his nomination form.
Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has been the Member of Parliament for Asawase since 2005 till date.
