The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold, a gold dealership firm, has stated that the government must in no way meddle in the court proceedings of CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1.
“We want government to understand that this issue is a very serious issue. We are expecting government to do what it has to do. We do not want any political interference in this. We want the government to allow the judiciary to do what they have to do.” The customers said.
Nana Appiah Mensah made his second appearance at an Accra Circuit Court for his trial after he returned to Accra on Thursday July 11, 2019 after months of detention in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
NAM1 is accused of defrauding 16,000 people of GH¢1.68billion in the name of investing their monies. His dealings contravened sections of the Banks and Specialised Deposits Taking Act, 930 and the Criminal Offences Act while operating Menzgold and its sister company, Brew Marketing.
The embattled CEO pleaded not guilty to all the 13 charges levelled against him. He has been granted a GH¢1 billion bail by the court presided over by Jane Helen Akweley Quaye with five sureties of which three must be justified.
According to the scores of customers who besieged the premises of the Court today, the Judiciary must be allowed to do its work without any inference from the State.
Defending NAM1 and the gold firm, the customers stated that Menzgold is not a Ponzi Scheme, adding that NAM1 is not a fraudster but genuine because he always paid their dividends on time when the business was thriving.
“That is why NAM1 stated that he is not keeping anyone’s money. He wants to be released so that he can get his people paid.”
Again, the investors of the gold company warned government against sabotaging the youth indicating that bad treatment on the youth comes with “unbearable consequences.”
“No youth should be sabotaged. It has come to bear that no youth must be sabotaged. We warned government about its decision to appoint Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh as SEC boss. Government should know that you can decide to treat the people the way you like. It is very easy. You can decide to undermine the people. You can live by falsehood but the consequences that come with those are unbearable.”
