The National Media Commission (NMC) reprimanded the Multimedia Group for its reportage on vigilantism citing the ‘Castle Militia’ documentary as misleading and inaccurate.

The NMC ruled that the Joy News documentary on the presence of D-Eye group at the Christiansborg Castle was in the public interest but cites aspects as sensational.

Media freedom under the Akufo-Addo-government has been scored as worse following the recent attacks on journalists and media organisations. Many have said the situation resulted in a dip in Ghana’s freedom of speech global ranking.

In its effort to prevent threats and attacks on journalists, government initiated a policy framework that will guide safe and responsible journalism practice in the country by November.

These and other issues are up for discussion on today’s edition of ‘Newsfile’ on JoyNews.

Also expected to be discussed is the allocated $6m budget for Ghana’s participation at this year’s AFCON as revealed by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah.

The Minister, when he appeared before parliament on Wednesday, noted that out of the allocated amount, US$4,563,353.00 was spent from during the training tour to the time Ghana exited from the main tournament.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has exonerated the former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, from allegations of corruption.

Bissue who was indicted in the Anas exposé on fraud in the sector stepped down from his post due to what he said was in the interest of transparency and accountability.

Despite an ongoing parallel investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the Daily Graphic on Monday reported that a probe conducted by the Police concluded that Mr Bissue did not circumvent the laid down procedures of the IMCIM hence cannot be found culpable of any offence.

Join host, Samson Lardy and his top-notch panelists Samuel Okudzeto, MP for North Tongu; Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-In-Chief of New Crusading Guide; Randy Abbey, Host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV; and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Information, for an interesting dialogue.
