The Golden Treasures International School (GTIS) in Tema has held its 12th graduation and awards ceremony.

The event, which was on the theme, "The disciplined child, the role of the society, " aims at creating the awareness that developing a responsible child is the responsibility of every member of society.

Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Rejoyce Lawer, Proprietress, noted that over the years, GTIS had played an important role in early child development in the Tema Metropolis.

Mrs. Lawer added that parents had supported the school and thanked them for the confidence they had reposed in the school authorities.

The proprietress advised parents to help their children to use their time profitably at home.

'"Do not allow your children to waist all their time watching television," she advised.

According to the proprietress, students who had gone through GTIS were never going to fail in their future endeavours adding that the first-ever Junior High School graduands would fit well into their next academic experience with a shining difference.

Mr Henry Ayetse, Deputy Director, Planning and Statistics, Ghana Education Service (GES), Tema Metropolis, noted that holistic education went beyond the classroom and book knowledge saying that it included the integration of the mind, culture, good morals among other appreciated behaviours.

He explained that a high standard of education was the premise on which early childhood education was built, calling on all individuals to be stakeholders in the nurturing of the child.

The GES, official, who also chaired the event, revealed that the Ghana Education Service would implement the new educational curriculum in the 2019/2020 academic year.

According to him, the new curriculum would redefine basic education and put a value on pupils' performance, ensuring that the child was equipped with relevant knowledge to navigate his or her environment.

Mr Ayetse added that education would no longer be assessed by mere examinations but would rather build character, nurture values, raise confidence and engage citizens to critically think through circumstances to develop the country.

Ms. Osei Owusu Afia, JHS graduate, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed gratitude to the teachers and management for their support in preparing the first-ever candidates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the school.

She was optimistic the BECE results would justify the investment the teachers made in them.

Twenty-three children graduated to grade one whilst 5 pupils also graduated from Junior High School.
