Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon Cynthia Morrison has described as “unfortunate and wrong”, the comments made by the leader of Glorious Wave Chapel, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, which stereotypes women of Ashanti, Fante and Ewe extractions as unfit for marriage.
The media space has been abuzz with discussions on the pronouncements of the popular preacher when a video of a televised sermon went viral on social media, in which the latter is seen branding Ashanti women as “ greedy eye-red, property-grabbing”, Ewe women as “doormats” and Fanti women as “fools”.
He advised men in his congregation not to make the mistake to marry women from the three tribes, most especially those from the Ashanti extraction because they would only be “importing trouble to their homes”.
Having observed the backlash and public outcry that greeted his pronouncements, the pastor has yet muddied the waters again, describing his critics as “fools and naïve”.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM today monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Hon Cynthia Morrison touted the industry of the Ashanti women and their contributions to the successes of their husbands, families and the country as a whole, saying the thinking of Prophet Badu Kobi is “an unfortunate and wrong development that must not be given any glorification by calling on him to retract”.
She said the prophet’s comment is “an indictment on his wife and offends womanhood”, but urged women in Ghana to continue being the pillars behind their husbands and not succumb to the stereotype of the prophet to become timid in their marriages, but rather strive to make properties for themselves and not hesitate to spend their husband’s monies when need be.”
