The Telecom Workers Association of Ghana (TWAG) is threatening a strike action against Huawei and Ericsson

The group consisting of site workers such as Telecom Engineers, Technicians, Electrician, Riggers and Civil Engineers, have been contracted by Huawei and Ericsson to implement ongoing telecom projects in Ghana.

According to this group, their role was to install a telecom mast, installation of BTS, transmission, installation of Microwave, commissioning and decommissioning of telecom infrastructures.

But the group claim they have been cheated by their Subcontractors, hence their decision is to go on indefinite strike until better working conditions of contract are made.

Acting Secretary of the group, Jerry Johnson Ashitey says all their field workers have been directed by the interim management of the Association to drop their working tools until proper conditions are put in place.

According to the Acting Secretary of the TWAG, what the group seeks to come out with is an amicable solution for a better contract price as their work is very risky.

The group says it is still exploring all avenues available to them in order to get their contractors to address these challenges as per their grievances.

Jerry Johnson Ashitey said they will have no choice than to continue the strike if their grievances are not addressed. He further warned that anybody within the group found working under any of the said projects shall be dealt with.

Meanwhile the group is calling all telecom workers to attend a very important meeting coming off this Sunday 11th August, 2019 at Legon at 3:00pm.
