Obuasi, March 16, GNA - A minister of religion has condemned women who use monies their husbands give them for housekeeping on frivolous things to the detriment of the welfare of their children. The Very Rev James Baffour-Awuah, the Bishop-elect for Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church, expressed regret that some women, instead of using such monies for the upkeep of their children use part in staking lotto and for their secret susu contributions.
The Very Rev Baffour-Awuah was addressing the women's division of the Obuasi Diocese of the church at Obuasi after a picnic as part of a weeklong festival that has the theme "Making Disciples of all Nations." The Bishop-elect also expressed concern about the way most women spent their wealth on social celebrations, especially funerals instead of investing them in the education of their children.
He urged Christian women to lead the way for others to emulate so that such attitudes in women could be erased from the society.
"You should influence positive attitude in the family so that both men and children can help in promoting the growth of the church", he said.
Madam Peggy Evelyn Nuamah, the Diocesan Co-ordinator of the women's division, explained that the division embraced all women groups within the Methodist church.
The women presented 20 bunches of plantain, baby food, bags of rice and sugar, maize, cooking oil, milk, toothpastes and brushes and assorted fruits to the Obuasi Adullam Orphanage.
