Sierra Leone coach Sellas Tetteh Teivi has his work cut out as he prepares to face Liberia in the return leg of their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 prelims qualifier in Freetown on Sunday.

In his first match on his second coming as Leone Stars coach, the team suffered a 3-1 loss in the first leg last Wednesday in Monrovia. The Liberians scored twice from the penalty, and a third just before full time.

It’s the Ghanaians worst defeat with the Leone Stars. There is a lot stake now for the former Rwanda and FIFA U-20 World Cup winner in Sunday’s return.

A win would fit the spirits of the nation making an international return after months in the wilderness following a FIFA suspension in October 2018.

Tetteh's previous achievements were critical in being chosen as the successor to Jonh Keister whose contract ended in July last year.

Between 2015 and 2017, Tetteh served as caretaker coach of the Leone Stars. He supervised seven games posting three wins, three draws and a loss.

The famous result was the 1-1 draw with then African champions Cote d’Ivoire away in Bouake on the last of qualifiers for the Total Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017, which saw them miss out narrowly on a place at the finals for the first time since 1996.

“I know it is not over yet. Our road to Qatar is still clear. I look forward to a strong comeback at home on Sunday with a historic win,” Tetteh told the media.
