The program is to create avenue for students to interact with personalities in the energy sector
The Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) is organising the Energy Personalities Outreach Programme at the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in Madina, Accra.
The programme is to create an avenue for students of second cycle institutions to interact with top personalities in the energy sector, and is part of a package of activities for the winners of the apex awards which is the Energy Personality of the Year, both male and female categories.
Scheduled for the 3rd of October, 2019, the event will host the 2018 Energy Personalities in the persons of Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Mrs Abigail Ansolange-Harlley, Chief Executive of AI Group.
They will be sharing their experiences and insights in the country’s energy sector to motivate and encourage young people to give thought to pursuing careers in the energy sector, which is a critical sector of Ghana’s economy.
Last year, the Achimota School hosted the first event of EPOP with the 2017 Energy Personalities; Dr Alfred Ofosu-Ahenkorah, Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, and Madam Kate Quartey-Papafio, Chief Executive of Reroy Group.
Profiles
Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, the Energy Personality of the Year 2018 (Male category), is a Civil Engineer with over thirty years’ experience in Ghana’s energy sector. He began his career in 1985 with the Volta River Authority (VRA), serving in various capacities until 2002. He was the Director of Power at the Ministry of Energy between 2002 and 2009, later as a private engineering consultant and subsequently, his appointment as Chief Executive of VRA.
Mr. Antwi-Darkwa has detailed knowledge in functional and infrastructural developments, regulatory influences in the country’s energy sector, and the dynamics of international power systems development. He is also expert in strategic planning, policy formulation and evaluation, contract negotiations as well as the management of several multi-disciplinary power projects.
The female Energy Personality of the Year (Female category), Mrs. Abigail Asolange Harlley, is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of AI Energy Group. She has over two decades of leadership and business management experience gained from Ghana’s financial sector, governmental and non-governmental authorities and international organizations. She has served in various management capacities including credit administration, industrial management and business development.
As an Entrepreneur, Mrs. Harlley has and continues to ensure that the AI Group’s vision is achieved. Thus, she sees to the crafting and implementation of robust corporate objectives geared at building a formidable and sustainable force within the oil and gas industry in Ghana.
The Ghana Energy Awards Scheme is an industry-owned initiative being executed in partnership with the various government regulating agencies within the sector, and seeks to recognise and appreciate the efforts of stakeholders in Ghana’s energy sector.
