Former Ghana Premier League goal king Eric Bekoe has jumped to the defence of the Black Stars B following their defeat to Senegal in the 2019 WAFU Cup insisting he is impressed with the performance of the team.

Ghana lost the finals to hosts Senegal through the lottery of penalty kicks after a pulsating 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

The former Asante Kotoko striker believes the players and the technical team have done a wonderful job and deserve to be praised for getting to the final of the tournament despite the absence of a league competition in the country.

“I would be soo disappointed if anyone should blame the Local Black Stars,” Bekoe said.

“They deserve to be acknowledged for their performance because they did it without a league in this country and they were able to get to the final,” he added.

“Even countries with active running leagues couldn’t get far in the tournament,” he insinuated.

Domestic competition has been absent for close to two years following the Anas Exposé which forced the 2017/18 league season to a halt.

Coach Maxwell Konadu had to rely on clubs that are busy playing friendly matches to pick players and prepare them for the tournament.

Ghana became the first country to have made it to the finals for three consecutive times, winning it in 2013 and 2017.
