The Ashanti Regional Police Command has interdicted three officers for alleged brutality against a 36-year-old man at Adonfe, near Bompata in the Ashanti Region.

The three were part of the Konongo Divisional Police Task Force, which embarked on an operation last Monday leading to the death of Kofi Amponsah.

According to a statement from the Command, preliminary investigations fault the three despite nine officers in all embarking on the operation to weed out miscreants from the town.

“The Command as part of investigations has interdicted three officers namely General Sergeant Suleman Seidu, General Corporal Seth Agbango and General Lance Corporal Salifu Yakubu.”

The three “were cited having allegedly taken part in the incident, hence their interdiction”.

The Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau has also been tasked to commence internal administrative investigations into the conduct of the officers and report accordingly.

Meanwhile, residents of Adonfe have vouched for the innocence of the deceased, saying the police ignored his pleas and rather brutalized him to death.

Speaking to TV3’s William Evans Nkum on Thursday, the residents called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to bring all the officers to book.

The police have, however, assured the public of independent investigation to settle the matter once and for all.
