Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the 307 ambulances procured by government under its US$1m per constituency policy will be uniquely tracked under an Ambulance Management System after distribution.

He explained that the management system will enable the allocation of calls to specific ambulances and will be aligned with the Digital Addressing System.

“By next month, all the 307 ambulances as a whole will arrive, but we’re making sure to have an Ambulance Management System to manage these ambulances, so every ambulance is going to be uniquely tracked, so wherever it is across the country, we [government] will know,” he disclosed.

“All the ambulances will be fitted with tablets along with the digital addressing system and by next month, the emergency number [112] when you dial it, the Police, Ambulance or Fire Service will know exactly the digital address from which that call is coming,” he added.

Dr Bawumia said this at the 3rd Ghana Business Chamber Awards night on Saturday, November 23 in Accra.

Already, government has taken delivery of 98 of the 307 ambulances which the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, while presenting the 2020 Budget Statement and Economic Policy in Parliament on Wednesday indicated would be distributed to the various districts nationwide.

Currently, Ghana can boast of only 55 ambulances, most of which are in poor conditions.
