President Kufuor confers with Gnassingbe

Kumasi, May 16, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Monday held closed door discussions with Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe who is on a day's visit to Ghana at the residency in Kumasi.
Details of the discussion which was on relations between the two countries and post-elections crisis in Togo, were not disclosed. President Gnassingbe was met on arrival at the Kumasi Airport by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Foreign Minister and the Togolese community in Kumasi.
Briefing newsmen later, Nana Akufo-Addo said Ghana has had a major stake in the peace and stability of Togo therefore the two Presidents had discussions on wide range of issues.
He said the discussion on the post-elections crisis in Togo was in preparation towards the reconciliation talks on the Togo crisis slated for Abuja, Nigeria on May 19.
The Abuja meeting, which is being called by the African Union (AU) Chairman and Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, would seek to find a way of getting a government of national unity in Togo. The Foreign Minister said President Kufuor was in favour of a national unity government in Togo.
President Gnassingbe also paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace and held discussions with him before he emplaned to Lome, Togo.
