Nkawkaw (E/R), May 19, GNA - Five persons died instantly when their vehicle, a BMW Saloon collided head-on with a Mercedes articulated tanker at Mamaso, near Nkawkaw in the early hours of Thursday. Three of the bodies were identified as Francis Numor, alias Kudjo, the driver of the BMW, which belongs to a travel and tour agency in Kumasi, Sanni Mohammed from Hohoe and Agyeman Badu Prempeh also from Kumasi.
All five bodies have been deposited at the Kwahu Government Hospital mortuary at Atibie.
According to the Commander of the Nkawkaw Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ebenezer Boryor, the driver of the BMW was overtaking a vehicle in front of him when he ran into the tanker.
He said personnel from the Nkawkaw Fire Service Station had to cut out parts of the BMW before they could remove mangled bodies of the occupants.
The Divisional MTTU Commander said the driver of the tanker, Mr Anthony Dapaah, who sustained minor injuries, was treated and discharged at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital. He advised drivers to avoid speeding and inappropriate overtaking to avoid accidents and their resultant loss of lives on the road.
