The Convention People’s Party (CPP) says it does not support the Electoral Commission’s plans of coming up with a new voters register.

The decision was reached a while ago in Accra at a central committee meeting made up of all the sixteen regional chairmen, national Executives and National Executive Council members.

Speaking in an interview with Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan, Bono Chairman of the Party Dayinday Ali said the CPP has realised that both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) mostly initiate plans, policies and programs that best serves that parochial interest.

“Look if it was the NDC which was in power they would have defended this, they are against it because it doesn’t serve their interest and they are not in power as well, the NPP would have also done the same if they were in opposition,” he posited.

Mr Ali wondered how a voter register which has won the NPP power with more than one million votes be deemed not credible.

“This year Ghana will be having its national population and housing census, when will the Electoral Commission also do their exercise, if the EC is of the view that their current system doesn’t function well, then they have to upgrade it which necessarily it doesn’t mean a new register, how can you throw away a register which was created in May 12th, 2012”, he queried.
