Kumasi The Kuapa Kookoo Company Limited, a cocoa purchasing company, pays 76,200 cedis for each bag of cocoa as against the Ghana Cocoa Board's price of 75,000 cedis. Mr R. A. Nketia, President of the Executive Council of the company, made this known at the company's annual delegates meeting in Kumasi. He said higher prices are offered for Kuapa produce on the international market due to the quality of Ghana's cocoa beans and the intervention of SNV, a Netherlands charitable organization which has been training the company's staff.

It is the aim of the company to alleviate the plight of cocoa farmers by establishing a credit scheme to which each farmer contributes 300 cedis on each bag of cocoa. A trust is also to be established soon to which each farmer would contribute another 300 cedis to cater for their welfare.

The company will do its best to provide pesticides, standard pruners, Wellington boots and cutlasses to its farmers at their doorstep. The President paid tribute to the late Nana Frimpong Abebrese the second and some Dutch donors - - Twin Limited and Max Havelaar Foundation - - for pioneering the Kuapa Kookoo vision. Gri
