Despite several negative feedback preventing the building of a National Cathedral, government seems resolute in completing the structure since President Akufo-Addo announced his decision in 2018.

The Cathedral, which according to government will serve as an interdenominational place of worship for Christians as well as house religious state events such as presidential inaugurations, state funerals, and national thanksgiving services have since been largely criticized with some individuals rendering the gesture as unnecessary and waste of money.

Some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), kicking against the idea, also said government should suspend the project thereby threatening to invite all Ghanaians to campaign against it to protect the national purse.

Meanwhile, situated in the heart of Accra, several buildings have been pulled down to create space for the 5000-seater edifice.

Nearly two years on and the project appears to be making progress.

A visit to the area by GhanaWeb showed wooden structures have been erected on paths by the road to properly demarcate and bar the area from the public.

Also, the team noticed that although the structures makes the road look narrow, it does not affect the free flow of motorist who use the route.
