Members of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana say they will embark on a sit down strike next Monday should government fail to begin negotiations with them on conditions of service and salaries.
POTAG describes as unacceptable what it perceives to be the unilateral decision by government to provide a 15 percent increase in without recourse to any negotiations.
The association has consequently directed all polytechnics to display red bands on their school premises to herald the strike next week.
Acting Chairman of the Accra Polytechnic Branch of POTAG, James Anane, told Joy News that their action has been necessitated by government?s indifferent attitude towards their call for negotiations.
? It is in reaction to POTAG?s ultimatum given to government about our salary inquisition with which there has been no response. The sit down strike will begin from July 27th ? he said.
According to him the sit down strike will last for a week after which there a national delegates conference will be held to discuss the way forward.
Meanwhile Joy News enquiries indicate that there will be a general meeting of POTAG members on the 29th of this month to collate members? views on the concerns.
This will be followed by a national delegates? conference in the first week of July.
