Contrary to claims by Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako that the ‘Yenpini’ demonstration held in Kumasi was a flop, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) disagrees.

Alhaji Mohammed Sani disclosed that a record number of Ghanaians attended the event to the shock of organizers who had made provision for a little over 20,000.

He disclosed on Accra-based Asempa Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com that over 30,000 attended the event and not 700 as claimed by Wontumi.

“We made provision for 20,000 people but we were overwhelmed by the numbers as 30,000 people showed up in protest against the compilation of a new voters’ register”, he disclosed.

The Former Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman insists the number of participants could be more considering the 500-meter stretch of they covered challenging all those claiming otherwise to provide contrary evidence.

“We were on a 500-meter stretch”, he insisted but when host wondered Osei Bonsu wondered if he was not exaggerating, he challenged those who disagree to make available their figures.

According to him, the NDC is prepared to dialogue with the Electoral Commission about the compilation of the new register indicating that the refusal by the electoral body triggered the series of demonstrations.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi who claims he was trailing the demonstrators in an Uber maintains they were not up to 700 as organisers are making Ghanaians believe.

He says per his estimates, only 700 people showed up for the demonstration against the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to compile a new voters register for the 2020 elections, because he “as a governor”, I followed the march closely and can confidently say that the numbers were disappointing.
