President Akufo-Addo has constantly been maligned for his frequent travels outside the country. Indeed, some members of the opposition have come at him hard for his inability to stay in the motherland to focus on what needs to be done to improve the country.

It appears though, that the president has a different agenda up his sleeves.

Speaking to China Global Television Network group (CGTN)’s Tian Wei at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr. Akufo-Addo intimated that he is constantly seeking to create employment opportunities for the youth in Ghana.

He admitted that the biggest issue in Ghana and by extension, many African countries is that of unemployment.

“…the biggest issue for our country and indeed the continent of Africa is finding work for our young people. As you know Africa is the youngest continent in the world, in terms of the population.

“So, the solution cannot just be public sector work, it has to be private sector development, and that means entrepreneurship.

“So, we’re putting a lot of emphasis on young people to become entrepreneurs, so that they can work for themselves and create jobs for others.”

President Akufo-Addo disclosed that one of such endeavours was what brought the founder of the global e-commerce platform, Alibaba Group to Ghana for an entrepreneurship summit.

Chinese business magnate, Jack Ma, together with former UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon, renowned actor Jet Li and others were in Ghana for the Africa Netpreneur Conference which was held in Accra.

“… I met him (Jack Ma) in China when I was in Beijing for the FOCAC and we agreed that he would come to Ghana and help us develop ideas for entrepreneurship and sure enough he lived up to his word, he came…” Akufo-Addo explained.

Leaders across the globe including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, front runners of international civil service, captains of multination companies, thinkers and celebrities have converged at Davos in Switzerland to exchange ideas, make long-lasting business deals as well as take decisions for the sustainability of all nations.

The theme of this year’s 3-day conference is “Stakeholders for Cohesive and Sustainable World.”
