Lawyers for the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi have commended officers of the CID for their professional conduct during the arrest and interrogation of Sammy Gyamfi.
According to lawyer Abraham Amaliba, the CID officers gave full respect to Sammy Gyamfi’s human rights.
“They have power of arrest but what is important for us is that the Police did not manhandle him, they didn’t treat him like was a thief. Let me commend the CID Boss and his officers, they were very professional. What is important is that they have respected his human rights,” Lawyer Abraham Amaliba told Akwasi Nsiah on Kasapa News.
Sammy Gyamfi has been granted police inquiry bail after officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) picked him up after a live TV programme Monday morning.
The police secured a warrant from the Court to arrest and interrogate the lawyer cum politician over his possession of forged document and publication of false news with the intent to cause fear and alarm contrary to section 166 and 208 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (ACT 29) respectively.
After several hours of interrogation, the police have granted him bail to two sureties to be reporting on every Monday at 2 pm for further investigation.
