1.4 million farmers to benefit from Planting for Food & Job this year – Agric Minister

A total number of 1.4 million farmers are expected to benefit from the country agriculture flagship programme, Planting For Food and Jobs (PFJ) this year says the minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Addressing the press in Accra, today, March 10, 2020, he revealed that over 1.1 million farmers benefited from the program last year.

On the back of the 2019 success, the agric ministry is targeting 1.4million farmers in 2020,

"The target for this year is 1.4million farmers,” he said.

The concept of the agricultural flagship programme, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ), is a policy that has been introduced by the Government of Ghana to address the declining growth of the country’s agricultural sector.

This programme which is spearheaded by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto was launched on April 19, 2017 at Goaso in the Ahafo Region.

PFJ is a friendly package to encourage Ghanaians to take farming more seriously than in the recent past.

It aims to make farming once more, a respectable and profitable venture and create jobs.

The programme is structured around 5 Pillars. These include Seed, Fertilizer;, Extension Services, Marketing, and e-Fertilizer & Monitoring.
