Akosombo Peki Union holds annual get together

The Akosombo Branch of the Peki Union have held an annual get together at Akosombo in the Asuogyaman district of the eastern region.

The event sought to promote networking and socialization among members particularly those resident in Akosombo and surrounding communities including Juapong, Atimpoku, Kpong, Akuse, Akrade, Odumase-Krobo, Somanya, Adjena and all other close communities.

Outlining the objectives of the Union, Vice President of the Union, Mr. Jerry Worlanyo Ohene-Asah said fostering unity among members, extending assistance to members in times of need, undertaking social responsibilities, promoting socialization as well as reaching out to members on developmental issues formed part of the aims and objectives of the Peki Union.

The Vice President called on all indigenes of Peki to join the various branches of the Union wherever they find themselves across the globe since it offers an opportunity to them to contribute their quota to the development of Peki as well as enjoy assistance of the group in times of need.

On his part, Mr. Michael Kutor who is the organizer of the Union called on all indigenes of Peki in Akosombo and surrounding communities to join the group and partake in its activities.

Members who join the union, he added, stand to benefit from the Union as members come together to support each other in the one way or the other.

He called on people from Peki in various parts of the world to join their respective local unions to come together to develop Peki.

A retired nurse at the Volta River Authority (VRA) and a member of the union, Madam Aurelia Kuto counselled members on the need to ensure strict precautions including regular handwashing to avert contracting the deadly coronavirus.

She also advised them to ensure personal hygiene at all times to avoid contracting other ailments.

Members who took turns to speak, advised the youth to inculcate the habit of reading to improve on their fluency and boost their public speaking skills and confidence. Others also advised young members to eschew social vices and rather be studious with their education as well as engage in productive ventures.

The organizers also used the occasion to urge its members to ensure peace during the December, 2020 general elections.

The Akosombo Branch of the Peki Union was established in 1985 by the late Dr. S.Y. Wuaku with 25 members.

The group targets indigenes of Peki and their spouses in Akosombo and surrounding communities to come together to foster unity and development.

Asked what expectations of executives of the union are in the coming years, the answer was that of optimism; increase in the membership of the union from its current number of forty to 200 within the next three years.

The group currently sponsors its activities through the donations of members through various contributions, dues and levies and the executives are therefore appealing to all citizens of Peki to come aboard to support them to undertake their various activities and developmental agenda.

Executives of the union who graced the occasion include President of the Union, Mr. Patrick Akutse, Vice President, Mr. Jerry Worlanyo Ohene-Asah, Mr. Michael Kutor who is the Organizer, Financial Secretary in the Person of Mrs. Vivian Nyarko and Treasurer, Mrs. Monica Ohene Asa-Sakyi.

The Union has undertaken a lot of social responsibilities particularly in various Peki communities by regular donations to health facilities, educational facilities, sponsoring Peki students outside the country, etc.
