University of Ghana suspends all religious activities on campus to prevent spread of coronavirus

All religious activities on the campus of the University of Ghana have been temporarily suspended to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Equally, Interim Assessments for students, scheduled to have taken place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March have been postponed indefinitely.

Management of the University of Ghana took the decision to suspend all public gatherings after the country confirmed two cases of the virus.

Meanwhile, the Students Representative Council, in partnership with the University Health Service Directorate, has moved to provide the various halls of residents on campus with hand sanitizers.

According to the SRC President, Isaac Agyemang, the move is to ensure the safety of members of the University community.

Isaac Agyemang says that the hand sanitizers will be stationed at all porter’s lodges.

UniversNews understands that the hand sanitizers have been procured and distribution will take place tomorrow.

University authorities have also allocated three bungalows to quarantine persons suspected to be infected by the virus.

It has also formed an Emergency Response Team, comprising of the University of Ghana Health Services and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, to help handle matters.

The University has also issued a questionnaire to members in its community to help them assess the risk of students and staff.
