Expect confirmed cases of coronavirus to rise first – Oppong Nkrumah

It is general theory that figures rise first, before a gradual and eventual substantive decrease in confirmed coronavirus cases in Ghana, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.

His comments come in the wake of some 25 new confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in the country, following some previous 27 and 2 deaths.

According to him, the collective survival of the country is currently at stake and it is only with joint efforts on the part of every individual that the pandemic can be fought against and overcome.

Speaking during a press conference Tuesday, March 24, 2020, he said,

“The case count rise should be expected. The general theory is that you are going to have a rise and then as all your measures work, you begin to bring down your numbers and flatten the curve.”

He however urged all Ghanaians to remain calm, comply with the directives, maintain personal safety and hygiene and hope for the best.

“Do not panic, rather, channel all your energy into helping us spread the safety, preventive measures, it’s better to spend time looking at how to prevent it than to panic.”

“Spread count, spread information, spread knowledge, so that we can all protect ourselves.



Those who want to smuggle people through the borders, and those who want to aid the flouting of directives like the quarantine, those who want to disrupt focus with all kinds of gimmicks, that our collective survival is at stake, it’s important to join us to focus on the necessary measures that have been put out there. Government is taking all the humanly possible measures based on advice from the experts.” He added.
