Legon Cities FC goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda
Experienced Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda says he has not given up on a return to the senior national football team despite not earning a call up in the last 5-6 years.
Dauda made his entry into the Black Stars setup in 2008 and became a mainstay in the team from 2012-13 thereof.
His time in the national colors has seen him represent at AFCON tournaments and he also featured in two matches (against Germany and Portugal) during Ghana’s ill-fated World Cup 2014 adventure.
Despite being overlooked by coaches in recent times, Dauda who now represents Legon Cities says he is relentlessly pursuing a return to the Black Stars.
The goalkeeper turns 35 on Monday April 6, and he believes he has can make this goal a reality.
“I’m still actively playing, I will be 35 this month. I don’t know when I will retire because I’m still strong,” he said.
“As a goalkeeper, I believe I can still play for the national team. I have not retired from international duty, it is just that I don’t get invited.
“I feel I have more match experiences than before, I’m very ready for the call-up. There were mistakes I made when I was 28, 29 years old that people complained about but I’ve worked on them.
“I’m still fit to play. I hope if I’m still doing well at my club level, it’s possible I return to the national team anytime” he concluded.
Dauda is a league winner in Ghana and Nigeria with AshantiGold SC and Enyimba International FC respectively.
