GTA, Chefs Association to feed frontline staff, vulnerable

In a bid to support the government deal with the coronavirus pandemic, the Ghana Tourism Authority has teamed up with the Ghana Chefs Association to provide free meals to all health and security persons at the frontline of the ‘battle’.

Dubbed ‘Cooking to Save Lives’ the project will also see them prepare meals for the vulnerable and less privileged during the period of the lockdown.

At a ceremony to kick off the charity work, the deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Dr Ziblim Iddi Barri, expressed gratitude to the chefs for thinking about the frontline workers and the vulnerable.

“I want to thank you for the initiative. For thinking about the people of Ghana and most importantly for the frontline staff. For you to do it on your own, I want to commend and congratulate you.

The President of Ghana Chefs Association, Isaac Sackey assured beneficiaries of consistent provision of food.

He added that currently, the association has the capacity to provide 1000 packs of meals a day for their targeted group.

CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr Akwasi Agyeman, commended the projects and also praised the members of the hospitality industry for observing the preventive protocols advised by the government.

“As a profession, we realized that apart from the virus which is killing people across the world, we don’t want a situation whereby common food can also kill any single person. So we decided to come together and have set up four national kitchens in Greater Accra to cook for people”.

The Minister of Tourism, Barbara Oteng Gyasi made a cash donation of GHc100,000 and other items to the course.

The items include bags of rice, cooking oil and boxes of tomato paste.

Barbara Oteng Gyasi lauded the initiative which she claims will serve as a motivation for the officers and staff.

She promised to lead a campaign to raise funds for the project to be extended to other parts of the country.
