Jonathan Abbey Pobee, a veteran football administrator has opposed the idea of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to solicit financial support from government.

He noted that after five months in office, they have painted the FA offices and changed furniture, which was done by the Normalization Committee before handing over to them.

He insisted that the GFA is not suffering, because they can take care of themselves financially.

“The GFA must rather support government, because the football body is financially sound to manage their affairs without governmental aid” he said.

He alleged that FIFA has promised to support various football federations all over the world, and even there must be forensic auditing on how the federations utilize the funds.

“As Ghanaians, we need to manage our affairs well free of fraud and greed like other countries, we are in trying times and the government should not be burdened by the football people” he expressed.

Speaking to Nana Prempeh aka the British man on Power 97.9 FM, ON POWER SPORTS EXTRA, he stressed that if the Ministry of Youth & Sports or the government supports the GFA, then they are condoning and conniving corruption at higher places.

He added that Fifa President, Mr Gianni Infantino, increased annual grants for every member Association to $5m so if Gianni, is in his third year then the Ghanaian FA should be bagging $15m as grant received so far.

According to the former Neoplan Stars boss, Government is burdened with a lot of projects like free education, health issues and socio economic problems that must be solved within this crucial epidemic situation.
