Wa, Dec. 22, GNA - The World Food Programme (WFP), has provided food items valued at 700 million cedis to be distributed to about 50,000 flood victims in the three northern regions.

They include 900 metric tonnes of maize and 83 metric tonnes of beans. Under the package, Upper West would receive 120 metric tonnes each of the items to be distributed to 800 needy victims.

Mr Ebenezer Dosoo, Director of Pest and Insects Sub Committee of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said this at a workshop on relief food management at Wa on Thursday. Officials of NADMO, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and other security services attended.

Mr Dosoo said the food is meant for children, the elderly and pregnant women. Mr. Bede Ziedeng, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, appealed to NADMO to ensure that victims are supplied with their real needs instead of dumping unwanted items on them. He appealed to GNFS to educate workers on how to prevent and manage fire outbreaks in offices.

Mr.Seidu Bawa, Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO, said since the army worm invasion and the recent floods, NADMO in conjunction with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has distributed relief items worth 400 million cedis to victims in the region. GNA
