The Ministry of the Interior has reminded the general public that working days following the Christmas and New Year are not holidays.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by the Ministry and signed by Nii Okaija Adamafio, Minister of the Interior said there is a general impression that since the actual holidays fall on weekends, the working days following them should be holidays.

The holidays which are December 25 and 26 and January one fall on Saturdays and Sunday while the working days following them are Monday and Tuesday, December 27 and 28 and Monday January three, 2000.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the public is hereby informed that Monday, December 27, Tuesday, December 28 and Monday, January three, 2000 are normal working days". The statement, however, asked the general public to observe Friday, December 31 as a public holiday.

The day, it said, has been declared a holiday to enable the banks and financial institutions test their preparedness for the year 2000 (Y2K) computer problem.
