Over 100 youth engaged in the exercise

The Nzema East Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the taskforce against COVID-19 have successfully fumigated market places, households and principal streets in the area to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Traders and other residents in the municipality also adhered to the institutions given by the Authorities and remained indoors during the exercise.
Over 100 youth were engaged to disinfect the aforementioned places and they were supported by the Ghana Police and Ghana Fire Service.
Ghana has so far recorded 641 confirmed cases with 8 deaths of Coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking in an interview with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE)
In an interview with GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent after the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. Frank Okpenyen applauded the general public especially the traders for their collaboration during the exercise.
Mr. Okpenyen said although the fumigation exercise was aimed at preventing the spread of Coronavirus, the exercise also helped to fumigate surfaces and drainages to clean the market of other diseases and harmful organisms.
He, therefore, re-echoed the call for general public to observe strict personal hygiene and called for all hands on deck to fight the deadly Coronavirus.
He said his outfit is partnering with the media to do continuous public education and sensitisation.
Mr. Frank Okpenyen seized the opportunity to urge his residents to continue to wash their hands with soap under running water frequently.
On his part, the Western Regional Prisons Commander, Mr. Mark Agbosu who surprised the exercise on behalf of the Western Regional Coordinating Council hailed the MCE and his team for a good work done.
He admonished the people to take regular hand washing with soap and running water seriously and continue keeping their environment clean and safe.
Chief of Gwira Kutukrom, Nana Kutu Acheampong, on his part, was very grateful to the President, Member of Parliament (MP) and the MCE for the support and pragmatic measures they had put in place to fight the spread of the disease.
He commended his people for comporting themselves during the spraying exercise.
The MP, Hon. Catherine Abelema Afeku working together with the MCE and the Municipal Health Emergency Committee have made conscious efforts to place Veronica buckets, tissues, liquid soaps and hand sanitizers at strategic locations and institutions in the municipality.
They had already sensitized the masses about the need to ensure strict personal hygiene in their daily lives and comply with the precautionary measures outlined by Ghana Health Service and World Health Organization.
