Mahama Ayariga, the Bawku Central legislator says the Special Prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu, is not seeking justice in the corruption allegations against him but rather after him, Ayariga.

According to Ayariga, the evidence against him in court does not suggest any kind of corruption or abuse of office as expressed by the Special Prosecutor.

The MP said that Mr Amidu as a lawyer has to prove in court that the allegations are true, but as things stand now, “he is not seeking justice…I feel hunted, there is no doubt about that, but whether he [Amidu] is a witch, it is another matter”.

The Special Prosecutor on March 22, 2019, filed a suit against Mahama Ayariga stating that the Bawku Central legislator had abused his office for personal gain.

Ayariga was accused of tax evasion in the clearance of vehicles and illegal transfer of foreign exchange from Ghana to Dubai without having the required license for such a transaction.

But Mr Ayariga explained to Joy News on Tuesday that, he did not purchase the vehicle alone; that the Municipal Chief Executive, Assemblyman as well as Regional Coordinating Director were all involved in the entire process.

“Clearly the pricing of the vehicle [ambulance] was based on the customs declared value without profit or any compensation for the effort of supplier. This implies that all those involved were not to defraud the state so the job of the Special Prosecutor doesn’t arise,” he indicated.

He added that in view of the evidence he provided to the Special Prosecutor, it is clear that much attention had not been paid to the matter, and two years on, the witness he named has not been called for interrogation.

“I am saying this on authority because I know the person, and he has told me that he has not been invited by anybody to be questioned as to whether or not he branded the ambulance,” Ayariga stressed.

He continued: “You can see that this person is not looking for the truth. This person is not out there to do justice. This person is just looking for Ayariga and thinks he had found Ayariga. I have confidence in the court and believe that the court will do the right thing.”
