According to a source close to Hon. Eric Amoateng, the member of parliament (MP) arrested in the United States in connection with drug trafficking, Dr Kwaku Darko Busia is not officially employed as Amoateng?s legal counsel.
Consequently, all utterances made by Nana Darko Busia and attributed to Eric Amoateng may not be factual.
Documents reveled to this writer indicates the MP is officially represented by Mike Hurwitz of Hurwitz, Stampur & Roth law firm and John Patten from New York. Hurwitz was brought in as a public defender and Patten's service was requested by Amoateng's son, Augustine Amoateng, who is a student in London.
Augustine is reported to have informed Darko Busia not to represent his father.
Mike Hurwitz appeared with Amoateng for the first and second arraignment on November 14th and 29th respectively at the Federal Court in Brooklyn, New York.
According to the source, Dr. Darko Busia was not present on both occasions.
On November 28th, in an interview with a JoyFM reporter, Dr Busia said Amoateng ?pointed out that he didn?t do this job alone and that there are people inside the government who knew about it??
If Busia is not officially representing Amoateng, then such statements are not creditable.
Meanwhile, it?s believed Mark Hurwitz would be replaced by Mr. Dennis Adjei-Brenyah who will be working with John Patten as the official legal team of the MP.
