Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okrau has revealed that the decision to #BringBackTheLove was birthed because of the turbulence that Ghana football was plunged into in the aftermath of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas exposé in 2018.
Football was brought to a halt following Anas Aremeyaw’s #Number12 documentary which uncovered massive rot at the Football Association. The documentary battered the image of the association and Ghana football in the eyes of the public and corporate entities.
In a bid to restore the image of the association and the game, when the current GFA administration took over from the Normalization Committee, the hashtag BringBackTheLove was initiated.
The tagline was couched ahead of the Black Stars AFCON qualifier against South Africa. However, in an interview with Ghanaweb, Kurt Okraku explained that the #BringBackTheLove came about during one of his engagements with stakeholders.
According to him, the idea to bring back the love was not purposively for the Black Stars game rather a bigger vision to ignite the passion of the general public, players and stakeholders in the football industry.
With the return of the football activities in the country after the Number12 expose, the GFA boss believes the campaign had been successful until the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The spread of the virus has brought major sporting activities in the world, including Ghana to a halt.
