The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has touted the massive investment in infrastructure development by the Akufo-Addo government in its first term of office.

Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony for the rehabilitation of roads in all garrisons across the country, the Vice President stated with strong conviction that the infrastructure development record of the Akuffo-Addo government is unmatched by any first-term government in the history of the Fourth Republic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the data, and it is always good to look at the data, and the evidence shows that the Akufo-Addo government is building more infrastructure than any first-term government in the history of the fourth republic. I am sure many people will be shocked to hear this but that is what the data shows”

"Today you'll see roads are being constructed everywhere in this country, across all the sixteen regions. The evidence is there for all to see."

The Vice President noted that government's decision to construct and rehabilitate roads in all garrisons in the country is further proof of government's commitment to infrastructure development agenda, especially in the road sector this year, despite the coronavirus crisis.

"The massive construction of roads going on in garrisons across the country is a demonstration that the government is not relenting on its agenda of declaring this year as the year of roads even in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic facing us.

Infrastructure development in other sectors

Aside the on-going massive road infrastructure projects, the Vice President cited infrastructure developments in other sectors to buttress his point of government's unmatched cross-sector investment in infrastructure.

"Apart from roads, the government is busily implementing major pieces of infrastructure across the country in the education sector, health sector, water and sanitation, aviation, agriculture, ports and harbours and so on."

On industrialisation, Dr. Bawumia said several factories have been built in districts across the country under the One District, One Factory initiative to provide jobs for thousands of young people.

In the health sector, the Vice President also mentioned that enormous investments have been made in the provision and rehabilitation of facilities and equipment to improve access to healthcare in remote areas across the county.

In Agriculture, Dr. Bawumia pointed to irrigation dams which have been built in the northern part of the country, as well as the $1 billion Pawlugu Dam project which is on-going. He also referred to the construction of silos and buffer stores throughout the country to preserve farm produce from the government's flagship agricultural intervention, the Planting for Food and Jobs Project.

While pointing out the Akufo-Addo government's unmatched record in infrastructure development, the Vice President added that government's focus has not just been on building infrastructure. He said, the government has also focused on other important sectors such as prudent economic management to transform the country and reduce the suffering of the people.

"We are not just building roads and infrastructure, ladies and gentlemen, we are building a country. We are building an inclusive modern economy while at the same time reducing the suffering of our people."

"We have restored macro economic stability; we have put this country on the road to self sufficiency in agriculture, and we are industrilising this country."

"Ashantigold has been revived, Ghana Post has been revived, Ghana Publishing Company has been revived, the textile industry is seeing a major boost and we are producing personal preventive equipment for our health service and other countries are now requesting to import from Ghana."
