Accra, Dec. 16, GNA - The International Inter-religious Federation for World Peace (IIFWP) on Thursday awarded 47 Ghanaians Ambassadors for World Peace in Accra.

By this award, they have been commissioned to champion the universal crusade for the attainment of world peace and the restoration of harmony to all people, regardless of race, creed, nationality or religious affiliation.

The award was one of the activities to crown the inauguration of Universal Peace Federation, an offshoot of IIFWP to spear head the struggle for world peace through the ideology of Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, a Korean evangelist, based in the United States. In an address read on his behalf, Rev Sun Myung Moon, founder of IIFWP said the United Nations in its 60 years of existence had failed to bring about world peace. " There is broad consensus, both inside and outside the organisation that the UN is yet to discover the way to fulfil its founding purpose", he added.

He held that the member states now approach 200 but the offices of those states did little and insisted on their own interest, adding, "they seem to be inherently unable to resolve conflicts and achieve peace".

Dr. Moon indicated that the only means to achieve peace was to practise the philosophy of true love and true life that had eluded mankind for years.

Additionally, to establish world peace on earth, all national boundaries and other barriers on the level that transcends religion and nations must be completely removed. " I would like to remind you that this is how all humankind will be able to enter the world of the original ideal of creation". Lt. Gen. Arnold Quainoo (rtd) said the world had suffered incalculable atrocities and that it was time to propagate the message of peace at every nook and cranny of the world. He said spreading the news about peace was a duty that must prick the conscience of everybody and should not be left on the shoulders of a few people.

Lt. Gen. Quainoo urged individuals of all disciplines to wake up to the universal call of peace and free the world from hunger, starvation and deprivation.

Maulvi Wahab Adam, Head Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana said mankind had been endowed with innate qualities that, if carefully nurtured would bring about peace to the world. He said man was a superior being and must therefore allow his conscience to guide his ways as that would result in living peacefully, devoid of discrimination, selfishness and prejudices. Bro. Ishmael Tetteh, Leader and Founder of Etherean Mission said it was imperative for certain fundamental questions to be asked about why people act and later regret their actions. He contended that remorsefulness sufficiently indicated that people have the capacity to resist evil yet they always fell foul of it.
