Kumasi, Jan. 3, GNA - A Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Ghanaians to unite and fight evils and vices plaguing and affecting socio-economic development of the country. In a New Year message, Mr George Ayisi-Boateng pointed out that the attributes of all successful nations depended on discipline and commitment of the citizenry.
He regretted however, that five years after President John Agyekum Kufuor had declared zero tolerance for corruption, no-one could be singled out as committed to fighting corruption within the society.
Within the same period, he said, Vice-President Aliu Mahama launched the campaign against indiscipline stating, "It is equally sad that nobody has embraced this laudable move to curb the cancer permeating the whole fabric of our lives to the extent that some even do not respect the highest office holder - the President."
"We need to change. We need to embrace these calls, zero tolerance for corruption and the fight against indiscipline so that we will live to see a better Ghana in the years ahead."
Mr Ayisi-Boateng said as Ghanaians reflected on the achievements of the Government in the areas of economy, infrastructure, human development and good governance, they must look into the future with brighter hopes.
He commended the military and police for their efforts at combating crime in the society and mentioned particularly armed robberies, which soared across the length and breath of the country.
"It is my hope and prayer that they would adopt better strategic measures, be more proactive, cohesive and to be ahead of crime perpetrators at all times for us to feel more secured." Mr Ayisi-Boateng said when Ghanaians embrace the fight against corruption and indiscipline, and reduced the two 'cancers' to the barest minimum; they would bequeath the best legacies for future generations.
