A member of Ghana’s 4x100 relay team that won gold at the Africa Games in Morocco in 2019, Benjamin Azamati has opened up on the feeling that engulfed the team after their victory.

Against all odds, the quartet of Azamati, Joe Paul, Safo Antwi, and Martin Owusu Antwi tallied 38.30 seconds to bag the gold medal.

The medal was Ghana’s first since 2003 and Azamati is thrilled to be part of the team.

He described the experience as exciting and amazing and promised Ghanaians more of such moments.

“It felt great and amazing. I felt proud of myself because that was the first time in sixteen years Ghana was winning a gold medal. It’s something that will go a long way with me so I felt great. We had some good sprinters and looking at what was going on in training, we knew we would achieve something significant”, he told www.ghanaweb.com

Azamati also opined that despite the team’s failure to replicate their success on the continental stage to the World Championship, they were satisfied with their performance as they improved on their timing.

“There are no regrets because we improved on our time and that was the second time we were running together so I think it was good because we did well. If we trained together for long, we would have done well.

Azamati was speaking to GhanaWeb on the impact the coronavirus outbreak has had on his career.

He expressed disappointment with the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games.
